The Community Service Officer (CSO) performs a wide range of duties in support of departmental operations, particularly incidents that do not require a sworn police officer. These incidents include minor traffic crash investigations, minor criminal investigations, parking enforcement, traffic control, found property investigations, evidence collection, and subpoena service duties. In addition, our CSO’s are involved in community engagement and outreach activities, as well as crime prevention and security at special events and school events. Since the CSO is a non-sworn position, the officers wear a different uniform, drive a different type of vehicle, and carry non-lethal weapons, such as a Taser, rather than a firearm; these differences allow the public to distinguish the CSO from a sworn police officer.
